Today we are going to review Celestron 52250 80mm Ultima Zoom Spotting Scope, a must have device if you are low on budget (below 200$) but love going for hunting, bird watching and target practicing. Priced around 170$ this is a great budget/starting scope that can perform well beyond expectation.
Ultima 80 spotting scope is from Celestron’s popular Ultima series scope. It features 80mm objective lens diameter which results in a 50% more brighter image than 65mm model. In addition to bigger aperture scope also features a Bak-4 prism and multicoated anti-reflective coating on lens and eyepiece for higher light transmission capabilities which results in excellent image clarity and sharpness with very low chromatic aberration (color fringing).
Celestron Ultima 80 features a zoom eyepiece that is capable of zooming from 20x to massive 60x magnification with ease. With the help of zooming knob user can easily and smoothly zoom from 20x to 60x without losing clarity and sharpness of object. Focusing is even more simple user can easily focus on an object with fingertip adjustment focuser. In fact, zooming capability and focusing is so good that users report that they were able to clearly see 17 caliber holes at the distance of 200yds during target practicing.
In addition to bigger aperture and better optics, one more thing we should take into consideration is build quality. It comes with rubber armored coating that provides a superior grip and also saves device from external shocks. Nitrogen is purged inside the tube to make the scope waterproof and fog proof. Celestron Ultima comes with carrying case to safely keep the device when not in use also it has zippers on both ends near the objective lens and eyepiece so that user can easily use the scope without taking it out from its case for additional security. All this feature make this scope rugged in nature and enable the scope to perfectly work in any harsh environment.
Celestron is two models of 80mm Ultima scope, 45° angled viewing scope and straight viewing scope. It’s up to the user to choose what they prefer. In my opinion, 45° angled viewing scope is perfect for observation. Angled eyepiece saves our neck from awkward angle during observation and causes lot less strain on neck compared to straight viewing scope. With the help of built in T-thread on the eyepiece, the user can easily attach their camera and capture the image. With an eye relief of 18mm, even an eyeglass user can use the scope without any problem.
